Habits.
We all have them.
Some of them, like daily exercise, are habits we want to build or maintain.
Others, like staying up too late, are habits we’d like to break.
Trying to create a new routine with positive and productive habits can seem difficult to maintain on the surface, but when you look at the brain science behind building a habit (or breaking one) it’s not as daunting as you might think.
This week on the Epic Success podcast, I’m sharing how habit success is an inside job. One thing I know from my studies of NeuroPsychology is that becoming successful, in business AND life, is a result of the daily habits of what you think. It all comes back to my brain-based Neuro Coaching Model™, which I’m giving you a peek of in today’s episode!

The biggest take-aways from today’s episode are:
- “A habit is just a decision repeated over time, just like a belief is just a thought repeated over time.”
A habit starts in the mind with what you’re allowing your brain to think. From your thoughts and beliefs you make decisions and actions, which turn into habits over time. Successful people are those with effective habits that drive their daily routine. So, if you want something different in your life and business, then you need to train your brain to control your thought patterns first. [3:15]
- “Wake up every day postured to lean into your intention and put your mind in a state where you will be the creator of your thoughts and put everything in your calendar.”
We’re told that forming a habit takes 21 days, but that just isn’t the case – I’ve got brain scans to prove it 😉 . After training your brain for 21 days, the neural networks in your brain for the old habit and the new habit are exactly the same in strength. At that time, you have a choice to go back to the old habit or continue to build the new, desired habit. You might be surprised how long it really takes to build a new habit – tune in to find out. - “We’ve got over 30 neurochemicals that can be working for you towards these habits.”
One hack you can do to make habit building easier is to put a calendar up where you can physically mark off each of the 67 days as you build the new neural networks to create your new habit. Your brain loves that and rewards you with more positive neurochemicals! [9:14]
You are in control of your brain, which controls your habits. And the good news is you can take it one habit at a time, one day at a time.
The key to removing old neural networks and creating new ones is consistency.
Don’t worry about the 67 days for your new habit – just wake up each day and focus on your thoughts for that one day. Consistency day by day creates momentum!
